Josephine Gonzales died May 6, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango. She was 64.
She was born Feb. 5, 1937, in Milner. She married Nicholas T. Gonzales Jan. 22, 1955, at Hayden. She and her husband then moved to Craig and lived there from 1957 until 1969, when they moved to Durango. She owned and operated the Hair Depot for several years and managed the Americana Beauty College and worked with several other beauty shops. She worked at Montgomery Ward and Animas Valley Carpet in Durango as a bookkeeper and office manager for Dean Brown, DDS.
She is survived by her husband, Nicholas of Durango; two sons, John P. Gonzales and David Gonzales of Durango; a daughter, Tracine Bevans of Torrington, Wyo; a sister, Jonell Backes of Milner; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef Gall and Charley Earle Dever.
A memorial service was at 10 a.m. May 10, 2001, at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Cremation will take place at Hood Mortuary in Durango.
