CHILDREN'S ART CLASSES OFFERED
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSKaleidoscope and the Hands-On! Children's Museum are offering a pastels and multimedia class from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday in May, except May 30, at the Children's Museum. The cost is $25 for four sessions. Space is limited. Children will learn basic color theory using different types of pastels, papers and other media. For more information, call 871-9955.
YAMPATIKA BRINGS BACK BIRD-A-THON
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSYampatika offers the sixth annual Bird-a-thon from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday, meeting at Yampatika. With experienced and patient teachers, participants may see a marsh hawk and a northern mockingbird, like they did last spring during the International Migratory Bird Day. Lunch is provided, and dress warm. Bring birds books and binoculars if you have them, but Yampatika will provide a few extras. This event is free. For more information, call 871-9151.
COLORADO ARTS GRANTS AVAILABLE
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSApplications are now available for the 2002 Grants to Artists and Organizations from the Colorado Council on the Arts. Deadline for submitting grant applications is 4 p.m. Wednesday. Colorado artists, organizations and community partners can apply for the grants. The Council seeks to support collaborations between schools, artists and art organizations; increased cultural participation; community building through the arts; and folk or traditional arts.

'FANTASTICK' THEATER FESTIVAL PLANNED
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Steamboat Community Players presents Summer Theatre Festival auditions for the classical musical tale, "The Fantasticks," plus an original piece written by the cast and directed by Matt Murphy. Auditions will be from 4 to 7 p.m. May 20
and 6 to 9 p.m. May 21 at the Seventh Street Playhouse. Males and females of all
ages, shapes, sizes and levels of experience are welcome. Just bring a monologue and
16 bars of a song. If you don't have the material, the management will provide them for you. The Summer Theatre Festival performances begin July 13 and run to Aug. 4.

TRIP FOR SENIORS INCLUDES BUTTERFLIES
STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Recreational Services Department offers a trip to the Butterfly Pavilion May 22 for those 55 and older. The Pavilion outside Denver will offer butterflies, insects and tropical plants to observe. Itinerary: 8 a.m. departure to Flatirons Crossing Mall to shop until 1:30 p.m., then a tour of the Pavilion. Stopping in Dillon for dinner and returning home at 9 p.m. Cost is $14 including transportation and entrance to Pavilion.
