Girls give it their best shot at state tennis tournament

Steamboat Springs Four Steamboat Springs tennis players recently had their seasons come to an end at the state tennis tournament at Pueblo City Park.
Meagan Franks (No. 2 singles), Kim Heckbert (No. 3 singles) and Tara Weiss and Tiffany McGinn (No. 2 doubles) all lost their first-round matches Thursday.
The Steamboat players would have competed in playback matches if their first-round opponents had reached the finals, which take place today.
Franks' and Heckbert's opponents both lost in Friday's semifinals.
Weiss and McGinn's opponent lost in Thursday's second round.
Mullen's Lindsey Griffin made it to the No. 2 singles final where she will go up against Kent Denver's Kacie Cook.
Kent Denver's Ashley Schmidt and Cheyenne Mountain's Erica Krautheim will meet in the No. 3 singles final.
Caitlin Finn and Paige Stapp of Mullen will face Dori Mayne and Ashley Cook of Kent Denver in the No. 2 doubles final.
