Steamboat to face Conifer in soccer tourney's 1st round
Tuesday, May 8, 2001
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Sailors will play the Conifer Lobos at home in the first round of the state soccer tournament, said high school athletic director Steve Moos on Tuesday.
A date and time has not yet been announced for the Conifer game, though that is expected to be determined early today, Moos said.
The Sailors scored a 6-0 victory over the Fort Morgan Mustangs in a home regional playoff game Saturday.
Conifer comes off a dominating win as well. On Friday, Conifer handed Englewood a 7-0 loss.
The Lobos are 9-6-1 for the season and represent the 4A Jefferson County League.
The Sailors, who are in the 4A Western Slope League, are 13-1-1.
Steamboat is seeded sixth in the 16-team playoff, said Jon Hawes, Sailors assistant coach.
"We have respect enough around the state to get a No. 6 seed that rewards us with a home game," Hawes said.
"To me that's the most important thing (because) the kids have worked hard this year."
