Sailors hope to raise a racket at state

Steamboat Springs — On Thursday, four Steamboat Sailors girls tennis players will begin their quest for a state title.
Meagan Franks (No. 2 singles), Kim Heckbert (No. 3 Singles), and Tara Weiss and Tiffany McGinn (No. 2 doubles) all qualified for the state tourney at last week's Class 4A Region 8 championships.
For Franks and Weiss, it will be the last tournament in their high school careers. They are both seniors.
The state tourney begins at 9 a.m. Thursday at Pueblo City Park in Pueblo.
It continues Friday and Saturday, with a 9 a.m. starting time for both of those days also.
To reach Pueblo City Park, take Highway 50 West from I-25, then South on Pueblo Blvd. to Thatcher Ave.
The address of Pueblo City Park is 3900 Thatcher Ave.
The tennis courts are at the northeast corner of the park, according to the Pueblo City Parks and Recreation Department.
