County seeks developer for its Web system

— Routt County is looking for a Web developer who could help redevelop the county's Web site.

"We really don't have someone in-house to maintain it," said Mo Valenta, an analyst with the county's Geographic Information Systems.

In fact, Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak complained some of the county's Web links were outdated.

"Several of our departments maintain their own sites but there are several Web sites created by departments that haven't been maintained," Stahoviak said.

In fact, Valenta said GIS had to remove the Yampa Valley Regional Airport's link because it contained a flight timetable that was inaccurate.

"There's some dead-end links and outdated material," Valenta said about the county's Web site.

And don't try to find out who's who in the county. If someone clicks on a listing for county staff, only the GIS employees and their e-mail addresses come up. And if someone clicks by department and entered a name, the page comes up blank as well.

The county commissioners said their GIS department is currently hosting the county's Web site, but employees are overwhelmed by other work. The person who originally developed the county's Web site was employed only temporarily.

"As the county's Web site has expanded, it became real clear to the department heads and GIS that we need some consistency," Stahoviak said.

"There are a lot of Webmasters who will develop and update sites."

They're also interested in someone who can host the county's Web site, she said.

Some departments will continue to update their own Web sites, such as the assessor's office and clerk and recorder's office, both of which provide important information for taxpayers. Still other departments will need any help they can get from a new Web developer.
