Steamboat Springs Eric Scholl and Ian Ramsay won the first golf tournament of the season on Sunday by beating out the competition in the 56 player two-man shootout at the Steamboat Golf Club.
"This tournament benefited our junior golf program," club pro Dennis Johnson said. "The money we raised will go a long way towards helping our juniors."
The Steamboat Golf Club event, which was open to every handicapped golfer, drew 56 players and raised $454 for its cause.
"We donated 20 percent of our entry fees to junior golf, "Johnson said. "We raised a pretty good chunk."
Scholl and Ramsay teamed up to shoot a 27-hole total of 86.20 (the tournament used a special handicap system) to win the overall category. John and Bobbe Marshall placed second at 93.30 and Martin Dennis and David Heist placed third with a total of 93.35.
The tournament was broken down into a 9-hole scramble (where each golfer plays their own ball, but drops at the spot of the best-played ball), a 9-hole best ball (both players play their own ball, but take the best score on the hole) and a 9-hole scotch doubles (players take turns hitting one ball) which were all played in one day.
The team of Scholl and Ramsay topped the 9-hole best ball by shooting a 25.
The squad was followed by second-place finishers Martin Dennis and David Heist with a 27 and third-place finishers John and Bobbe Marshall who shot a 28.
Scholl and Ramsay shot a 31 to win the 9-hole Scotch portion of the tournament. They were followed by Gary Migues and John Haller in second with a 32 and Pat Lichenstein and Drew Coulter in third with a 32.5.
The 9-hole scramble was won by the team of Tom Rashid and Dan Benoist, which shot a 28.75.
Todd Confer and Todd Bridges finished second at 29.60 and Dan Armstrong and Chris Johnston placed third with a 30.05.
