Man sprains ankle in Steamboat Grand lobby

— Guests of the Steamboat Grand Hotel were startled shortly before 10 a.m. Monday by loud cries of pain from a man who fell in the hotel lobby.

"I heard bloodcurdling screams from inside my office and I ran into the lobby to see what had happened," Hotel Manager Terry Murphy said.

Hotel personnel called Steamboat Springs Ambulance, which responded to the scene. Steamboat Springs Ambulance Manager Mel Stewart said emergency medical personnel initially believed the 44-year old man had broken his ankle, but after he was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center and X-rays had been taken, it was determined he had suffered a severe ankle sprain.

Murphy said the hotel guest fell on the steps that flank a waterfall leading down from the check-in area to the main hotel entrance.
