Chix win two on the road
The Chix with Stix women's hockey team went two-for-three during a Front Range swing March 2-4.
The local women's team downed the Denver Bandits 3-2 March 2 behind goals from Diane Dwire and Julia Wallace. Dwire netted her goal in the first period off a feed from Liz Schnackenberg. Wallace's goal also came in the first period after she redirected a shot from Kit Rice.
On March 3, the Chix fell to the Rocky Mountain Rockets in a 6-1 game. Sheila Cahur netted the local teams' only goal with 42 seconds left in the first. Heidi Chapman was credited with the assist.
The next day, Steamboat rebounded with a 7-0 win over the Northern Colorado Comets. Jen Rose, Dwire and Val Deitrich each had two goals and Beth Leys netted the other.
In like a Lamb, out like a champ
Ski Racing Magazine has once again named David Lamb as one of the top contenders for the Sprint/Ski Racing Junior Alpine Skier of the Year Award.
Despite a slow start this season on the NorAm Tour, Lamb has continued to battle for points on the NorAm and European B Circuit with several top-30 finishes.
He also placed 19th in the downhill and 17th in the super G event last month at Verbier, Switzerland, at the World Junior Championships. It was the first time this season Lamb had raced in either event and he was the top American finisher.
Winter Park hosts Nastar action
A.J. Kitt and Chad Fleischer were in Winter Park this weekend to host the Charles Schwab Nastar Regional Championships.
Skiers got the chance to race the Nastar course against both Fleischer and Kitt's official pacesetting times or against the hosts themselves in the recreation-based program.
The top 3 winning times in each age group were presented with gold, silver and bronze medals, but more importantly received a berth to the Nastar National Championships, which will take place March 31-April 1 at Beaver Creek Resort in Beaver Creek, Colo.
