Nites Rest/Winona's take championsip

— The Steamboat Springs Adult Senior Hockey League crowned Nites Rest/Winona's team tournament champions last Sunday night in the final contest of the season.

Nites Rest held off a late run by Backdoor Sports to win the championship title 3-2. David Schaller gave Nites Rest an early lead with a first-period goal. But Backdoor answered when Steve Colby netted an unassisted goal.

Scott Fox, however, gave Nites Rest the 2-1 advantage at the end of the first period with his only goal of the evening.

Nites Rest added another goal when Schaller knocked a loose puck into the net to make the difference 3-1. Backdoor's Rick Mills tried to spark a rally with a goal at the end of the second period.

But in the third the defenses took over as Nites Rest goalkeeper Thorman Idzahl closes the door on any hopes of a comeback in the championship game.

In the only other game of the evening, Precision Pools and Spas dominated Alpine Oral and Facial Surgery in a 7-0 contest to take third place in the league tournament.

Precision goalkeeper Bob Milne recorded the shutout with Glen Martin providing the offense by netting a hat trick for his team.

The championship games brought an end to the Steamboat Senior Hockey League's season which included 12 weeks of regular season play and two weeks of post-season play.

The adult hockey league will come to a close this weekend with more playoff action.
