Training set for Fight Night 2

— If you are planning on boxing in Fight Night 2, an upcoming boxing clinic at Peak Fitness could save you from being KO'd.

Shane Swartz, a professional boxer from Fort Collins, is coming to Steamboat July 7 to teach two one-hour lessons at Peak Fitness.

Swartz said he plans to go over basic boxing techniques that will help fighters learn to throw punches with proper power and speed.

Those attending will also learn defensive tactics, Swartz said.

And they will have a chance to throw combinations at the heavy bag, speed bag and against Swartz' mitts.

Fight Night 2, which is for rookies only, takes place at Romick Arena in Steamboat July 29.

Anyone over 18 who doesn't have amateur or professional experience is allowed to box at Fight Night 2, Swartz said.

An amateur fighter is a boxer registered with the United States of America Amateur Boxing Federation.

"If anybody has experience and they get in the ring we will disqualify them," Swartz said.

Swartz and Steamboat promoter Tara Nultemeier are organizing Fight Night 2.

Nultemeier, who owns Peak Fitness, said she organized the boxing classes in response to requests from fighters.

"The people that fought last time wanted some preparation this time," she said.

Each class is limited to 10 fighters and costs $10 per person.

Swartz, who is 25, brings a great deal of ring experience.

He was a six-time national champion at the amateur level and now fights professionally as a light heavyweight.

Swartz fights in the same division as undisputed champion Roy Jones Jr. , who is arguably the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world at 44-1 (36 KOs).

Swartz is 13-0 with nine knockouts.
