Steamboat Springs After three days of competing in a local mixed doubles tournament, Steamboat's Ed Mooney and Stacy Swiggart snatched the championship in the highest division.
Swiggart and Mooney, who played in the 5.0 doubles division, defeated Casey Clagett and Patty Kreutz in a three-set finals match at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs Sunday.
They came from behind to pull out a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory during the Steamboat Tennis Association Old West Steak House Mixed Doubles Championships.
Mooney and Swiggart trailed 4-1 in the third set before they made a run.
"It was definitely a tight match," she said. "We couldn't have asked for better opponents in the finals."
Mooney and Swiggart won the 5.0 championship the past two years.
Other divisional winners were Dominic and Karen Riggio (4.5), Eli Campbell and Kandra Sharp (4.0) and Al Skiles and Sandy Thrasher (3.5).
Barb and Scott Campbell won the 5.0 consolation, while Laurie Buelow and Gail Good were the winners of the 4.5 consolation.
Lou Johnston and Glynn Sisson won the 4.0 consolation.
There was no consolation bracket in the 3.5 tourney, which was a round-robin.
Skiles said he enjoyed competing in the round-robin because it guaranteed each of the players three games.
The other divisions involved draw formats.
There were four teams in the 3.5 division.
"That was great everybody got to play three matches whether they won or lost," Skiles said.
