Steamboat Springs Resort Group is raising the bar among local property management companies.
The company's new corporate headquarters and remote check-in site are under construction at Mount Werner Road and Resort Drive between Taco Bell and the Vectra Bank building. The 18,000-square-foot building will feature a huge lobby that will remind arriving guests of a national park lodge.
"The lobby will be very large with the ceiling open to three stories and a large fireplace," Resort Group Vice President of Operations Dan Dean said. "That's one of the main purposes for the project. I really think it's going to be a nice addition."
The building was designed by Jan Kaminski of Mountain Architecture Design Group to appeal to visitors to Steamboat. It includes a full wrap-around porch with ledge stone, log siding and stucco exterior. The lobby features log trusses and hand crafted log handrails in addition to an imposing fireplace.
Steve Cavanagh of TCD in Steamboat is the general contractor. Vectra Bank is the lending institution on the project.
Resort Group President Andy Van Baak said he anticipates moving into the new building by May 2002. He's optimistic the new building can be closed in, and site preparation completed prior to winter.
"This will allow the contractors to work inside in a controlled environment when the weather turns cold," he said.
Resort Group guests arriving form the airport or by private vehicle will be directed to the new building for check-in, then transported to their vacation lodging. Company officials point out that not only is the check-in centrally located, but the majority of traffic destined for the ski area passes by their new location.
Resort Group has been quietly going about increasing its presence in the local property management scene since acquiring Mountain Resorts in 1997. Most recently it purchased Mt. Werner Property.
Today it manages 761 units locally, including 342 on the short-term rental market. In total, the owners associations represented by Resort Group number 36.
Among the properties managed by the firm are Cross Timbers, The Terraces, the Mountaineer, the Villas at Walton Creek, Shadow Run, Quail Run, and properties in the Storm Meadows complex. It also manages two properties on the Texas gulf coast. When complete, the new building will house the corporate offices of Resort Group and the various companies it owns. Dean said the corporate strategy is to keep the brand identity of those companies intact, even though they are under single ownership. Those business entities include Hotel Bristol, managed by Jim Sprengle; Mountain Resorts, managed by Jim Spillane; Big Country Resorts & Residential Housing, managed by Tom Simmins; and Mount Werner Property.
