Man pleads guilty to attempted theft

— A 28-year-old Craig man pleaded guilty to a felony for a theft that occurred in early March.

Troy Hernandez pleaded guilty to criminal attempt to commit theft Friday morning in front of 14th Judicial District Judge Joel S. Thompson.

Hernandez will be sentenced by Thompson Aug. 24.

He faces six months to six years in prison. He also could be fined between $1,000 and $100,000.

Hernandez was originally charged with second-degree burglary and theft, but the two charges were dismissed.

A plea agreement was negotiated between Hernandez's attorney, Norm Townsend, and Assistant District Attorney Kerry St. James.

Hernandez stole an air compressor, air nailers and a compound saw from a construction site in the 1500 block of Clubhouse Drive.
