— Once officials from the Yampa Valley Electric Association hold an annual meeting Saturday, a Hayden tradition will follow at the town's park.

The Hayden Chamber of Commerce has once again teamed up with YVEA to put on its annual Hayden Appreciation Day.

The event will feature a free lunch, a raffle and games for kids from noon to 2 p.m. at Hayden Town Park. "This event is a thank you from the businesses to the patrons," said Karen Fox, president of the Hayden chamber.

The lunch and activities will follow YVEA's annual meeting ,which will be held at 10 a.m. at Hayden High School, 495 Jefferson Ave.

The meeting will be held in the school's auditorium.

Residents who are interested in voting in the election for a board of director position can register at the school starting at 9 a.m.

Pat McClelland and Paul Sachs are vying for a seat on the board.

After the meeting has concluded, it will be on to the park for a lunch of chicken, roast beef sandwiches, potato salad and watermelon, Fox said.

The Hayden Chamber of Commerce and YVEA are each paying for a portion of the lunch, she said.

During the lunch, Hayden Recreation Coordinator Debbie Alpe is planning games and activities for children in attendance.

"We are going to do some fun games for the kids and have prizes for them," she said. "We are planning to have these games and activities for the kids so they can have fun instead of hanging around the barbecue."

Also during the event, a raffle will be held.

"Businesses are going to donate prizes that will be raffled off," Fox said.

Because YVEA spans most of Routt and Moffat counties, Hayden Appreciation Day is a way to bring these residents together, Fox said.

"The fellowship between the residents is what I enjoy," she said. "The meeting attracts residents from South Routt, Moffat County and Steamboat Springs. It is also a way for businesses to advertise."
