Trustees to discuss controlled burn

Oak Creek residents not happy with burning of building

— The Oak Creek Board of Trustees will discuss the Oak Creek Fire District conducting a controlled burn of the old American Legion building in town at its meeting tonight.

The volunteer fire crew burned the building down on Sunday for training purposes, which resulted in numerous complaints at the town hall, Oak Creek Town Manager Ray Leibensperger said.

"I fielded a 'kagillion' calls, and that's an exact number," Leibensperger said.

Oak Creek locals were concerned about the toxicity of the air and an explosion of the building during the controlled burn, he said.

"I anticipate (Fire Chief) Chuck Wisecup to address the issue at length," Leibensperger said.

Wisecup was on vacation during the controlled burn.

Leibensperger said Wisecup didn't condone the burn.

Other issues to be covered at the meeting:

The V, a new tavern in town, will seek a liquor license.

Alan Maeir will discuss land-use issues for a new power-coating business in town.

The adoption of the uniform fire code will be discussed.

An Oak Creek planning commissioner will be appointed.

The Oak Creek Board of Trustees meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Oak Creek Town Hall.
