Wedding gifts allegedly stolen

Guest reportedly takes cards containing cash

— A 35-year-old Oak Creek woman has been arrested and charged with stealing cash gifts from a wedding she attended Saturday night.

On Monday afternoon, Shelley Germaine Kalik appeared in Routt County Court after a Routt County Sheriff deputy allegedly caught the woman with $620 and 13 wedding cards, Undersheriff Daniel Taylor said.

Kalik is being held in the Routt County Jail on $5,000 bail and faces a felony theft charge.

She was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Saturday night after she was stopped while traveling south on County Road 31.

Kalik was a guest at the wedding of Andrew and Jaila Benjamin at the Sky Valley Lodge.

Police were called to the lodge about 5 p.m. after someone at the wedding reception noticed several cards missing, said Tony Benjamin, the groom's father.

Sheriff's investigators suspected Kalik, and Deputy John Chapman stopped the woman as she was driving home, Taylor said.

A search warrant has been obtained by the sheriff's office to search the vehicle for potentially more missing money, Taylor said.
