Marie C. Fitzgerald of Steamboat Springs, 1555 Pine Grove Road., died May 25, 2001, at her home. She was 78.
She was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Grass Valley, Calif., to Jack and Marguerite (Skeahan) Clary. She married James Fitzgerald June 1, 1946, in Grass Valley. He preceded her in death May 18, 2001.
Marie was a graduate of the St. Luke Hospital School of Nursing in San Francisco, Calif., and was a veteran of World War II, serving as a flight nurse in the United States Army Air Corps. She met Jim in Fresno, Calif., while in the service, and afterward moved to Yankton, S.D. They relocated to Nevada City/Grass Valley in 1987.
Jim and Marie later moved to Steamboat Springs in 1993. Marie was also a homemaker, a registered nurse, held a stockbrokers license and was a medical secretary. She was an avid tennis player and played until last year.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Fitzgerald of Rancho Murieta, Calif.; three sons, Tom Fitzgerald of Yankton, S.D., Jeff Fitzgerald and wife Mary Angela of Marina Del Ray, Calif., and Matthew Fitzgerald of Steamboat Springs; two grandchildren, Avery Mare Shinkle and Mike Fitzgerald; and a great-grandson, Levi Shinkle.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Howard.
A private funeral service will be held.
Cremation has taken place. Peterson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials in Marie's name may be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.
