CHSAA holding summer clinic

DENVER The Colorado High School Coaches Association will hold its annual summer clinic July 27-28 at the Sheraton Tech Center in Denver.

The clinic is for coaches at all levels in basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball and football.

Locals taking part in golf scramble

David Klein, Steve Firestone, Glenn Goldstein and Christian Sabia will play in the Sectional Qualifying of the Oldsmobile Scramble in River Dale Dunes golf course in Denver on Aug. 15

The team qualified for the event locally June 16 at the Haymaker Golf Course during the first-ever Oldsmobile Scramble.

Twelve four-man teams competed in the event, with the winning team recording a score of 61 on 18 holes.

At the sectional level the team will be joined by professional Tom Taylor to make up a five person pro-am team.

The local players will be attempting to qualify for the National event in Orlando, Fla., in October.

Meanwhile, four other local golfers are hoping that the Team Golf International Golf Challenge will earn them a trip to Hawaii in late November.

The Haymaker hosted the preliminary round of the event July 14 at the local course.

The event featured 12 two-man teams who competed in two separate flights.

The winners of the platinum flight were Steve Dodson and Jim Harper with a round of 62.

Steve Firestone and Christian Sabia also qualified to play at the regional level by shooting a score of 67.

Both teams will now head to Denver to play at the Riverdale Dunes golf club.

If they win their the players could receive an all-expense-paid trip to Hawaii for the finals.

Residents recently win golf tourney

Steamboat Springs DJ and Hank Edwards teamed up with former Steamboat Springs resident Jim Lathrop and his wife, Linda, to win the annual Blue Lakes Country Club couples member-guest Golf Tournament recently in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The tournament took place July 14-15.

Colon suspended for seven games

NEW YORK (AP)

Pitcher Bartolo Colon of the Cleveland Indians was suspended for seven games and fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Scott Servais of the Houston Astros.

Colon was thrown out in the sixth inning of Tuesday night's game in Houston by umpire Andy Fletcher.
