James Alan "J.R." Romcevich

James Alan "J.R." Romcevich died July 8, 2001 in Evergreen. He was 49. J.R. was born Dec. 1, 1952 in Waukegan, Ill. He was the youngest of three children. From 1953-1957 his family split their time between Arizona in the winter and Chicago in the summer. He graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1970 and attended area colleges before relocating to Boulder in 1972. He continued his career in the restaurant business which began at his father's restaurant in Chicago. In the mid-1970s, J.R. moved to Steamboat Springs. He worked at the Steamboat Village Inn, Clocktower and Pine Grove restaurants. He moved to the Denver area in the early '80s. He managed several restaurants before purchasing a Subway franchise on Hampden near I-25. He turned it into a successful business and set many records for production. J.R. truly enjoyed life and never lost his child-like wonder of the world. His sense of humor was always present. He delighted in telling jokes and making people laugh. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed skiing and golf in particular. He especially cherished the time he spent with his two sons.

He was golfing with close friends in Evergreen when he died suddenly on July 8. He is survived by his sons, Alex, 12, and Joe, 8; their mother, Jeannie Gonzalez Romcevich; his father, Mike Romcevich of Grayslake, Ill., a sister, Nicki Walker and her husband, Art, of Lake Bluff, Ill.; a brother, Dan Romcevich and his family of Greenwood Village; and many friends.

A service was held July 12 at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Denver. He was cremated and his ashes will be scattered near Rabbit Ears Pass
