Billy Kidd receives Huega Award

Billy Kidd, Steamboat Ski Resort's director of skiing, received the Jimmie Huega Award at the Far West Ski Association's 69th Annual Convention Awards Banquet June 9 in Reno, Nev. The Jimmie Huega Award is one of the highest awards presented by the association to a member of the ski industry, and is given to an individual who, like Huega, has demonstrated courage and skill in three areas: the ski slope, the human body and the courageous heart.

Billy Kid's nomination citation noted his ardent support and participation in the Jimmie Huega Snow Express program, which generates funds for the Jimmie Huega Center.

This past November he was named the Intermountain regional finalist for the Texaco Star Award for his more than two decades of volunteerism with Special Olympics International.

Housing program gets under way

SUMMIT COUNTY The Colorado Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Foundation unveiled its fifth home ownership initiative Home Ownership 2001.

Through this initiative, CARHOF will consider proposals from nonprofit housing organizations that request funding for down payment assistance and/or home ownership training.

CARHOF has $100,000 of state funds available for the program. The deadline for submitting requests for funding is at 5 p.m. August 8, 2001.

Funds for approved proposals will be dispersed in September.

Last year the Summit County Housing Authority provided eight families with the necessary funds for the down payment and closing cost of their homes.

This year, the Summit County Housing Authority has already doubled its 2000 efforts.
