Grand Valley edges Soroco

— The Soroco Rams basketball squads still can't get on their feet, as the boys and girls both fell at the Grand Valley Cardinals' house Saturday afternoon.

For the boys, coach Andy Johnson said he felt good about his team's effort, though the Rams lost 54-37.

The Cardinals are the team that beat Hayden by 44 points Jan. 12. The Rams lost to Hayden Friday, 62-56.

Senior Brandon Himmerite had 18 points to lead the Rams and sophomore Justin Spaeth had six.

The Rams are now 0-5 in the league and 0-12 overall.

The Rams girls' inability to recover after scoring two points in the first quarter and a tough Cardinal half-court press is what hurt them. The Rams lost 47-37.

"They put their half-court press on us and we never got into our offense," coach Bob Johnson said.

The girls may have been still reeling after a heartbreak loss to Hayden the night before, 38-36.

Senior Jamie Iacovetto led the Rams in scoring with 15 points. Senior Katharine Ford had 10 points and junior Sara Jo Linden had nine.

The girls are now 1-4 in the league and 3-9 overall.
