Steamboat Springs A 33-year-old Yampa man will be arraigned on two felony charges this morning for a December shooting.
Warren Dean Hillbolt III is expected to enter a plea to charges of first-degree attempted murder and violent crime with the use of a deadly weapon. His arraignment is set for 10:30 a.m. in 14th District Court. Judge Richard P. Doucette will preside.
Hillbolt faces the charges for allegedly shooting a 24-year-old man the evening of Dec. 2.
According to a court file, Hillbolt shot Jared Williams at about 8:30 p.m. inside Hillbolt's Yampa trailer at 116400 Colorado 131.
Hillbolt allegedly put a hole in Williams' with a bullet from a 9 mm semiautomatic assault rifle. Williams was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center where he was treated for the wound and released a day later.
Hillbolt surrendered to Routt County sheriff's deputies minutes after the shooting.
Before the shooting, Hillbolt, Williams and another man had been drinking at a restaurant in Steamboat Springs. The men all worked together.
On the way back to Hillbolt's residence, Hillbolt allegedly told Williams he was going to shoot him, the file shows. After the three men arrived at the trailer, Hillbolt allegedly picked up the rife and shot Williams.
A 911 telephone call reported the shooting, and deputies repoortedly found the victim in a car outside the trailer with the man who witnessed the shooting.
Hillbolt is being held in the Routt County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
