— A Fort Collins man who hanged himself in an area hotel has been identified as Sean James Cairns.

The 30-year-old man was found dead at the Holiday Inn, 3190 S. Lincoln Ave., Monday morning by a hotel employee.

The death is under investigation, but police do not suspect foul play, said Steamboat Springs Detective Robert DelValle.

Police said Cairns was not a registered guest at the hotel but was staying with a friend.

Police believe Cairns came to Steamboat Springs about midnight Saturday.

On Sunday, Cairns allegedly got into a dispute with his friend, who was a woman, after he got drunk.

The woman ended up staying the night with a friend in another room in the hotel.

Cairns was found just before 9 a.m. after the woman requested a hotel employee to open the door.

The safety latch was securing the door, so the woman could not get back into her room.

Cairns' death marks the second time in less than 30 days that a suicide has occurred at a Steamboat Springs lodging establishment.
