Junior Olympics set to go

Approximately 160 junior skiers will gather at the Winter Park Resort for the Chevy Trucks J-3 Junior Olympic Championships March 12-17.

The racing action begins on March 14 and will include slalom, giant slalom, super-G and downhill. Courses will be set on Hughes trail, which provides spectators with easy access and viewing of the race.

Competitors will be representing ski teams from Vail, Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs, Aspen and Winter Park. There will also be ski teams from several Midwest ski teams.

Scholarships for athletic winners

The "Will to Win" Asthma Athlete Scholarship Program for high school scholar-athletes marks its 17th consecutive year in 2001.

Sponsored by Schering/Key, the "Will to Win" program grants $35,000 in scholarships to 10 high school seniors who have excelled in athletics in spite of the challenge of asthma. The grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 gold award, with four silver and five bronze award winners receiving $5,000 and $1,000, respectively.

Scholarship applications may be obtained by calling "The Will to Win" hotline at 1-800-558-7305. The deadline for entries is April 30.
