Warriors dominate Sailors

— The Steamboat Sailors dropped their second consecutive game Saturday, falling to the Grand Junction Central Warriors 69-45.

Led by Stephanie Coleman, the Warriors handed the Sailors their second loss in as many nights.

On Friday, the Sailors lost a close game to the Rifle Bears at home. Steamboat is now 9-8 overall and 5-5 in the league. Its loss to Central was a non-conference loss.

Bayli Stillwell had a team-high nine points against the warriors, and Katie Carter added eight points before fouling out.

Coleman finished with 12 points.

The sailors were outdone from the get-go, falling behind 17-4 at the end of the first period.

By halftime, the Warriors held a 33-14 advantage.

Lindsey Kame added 10 points for the Warriors.

Jannike Combs, Emily Hines and Natalie Muth scored six points apiece for the Sailors.

Steamboat is still playing without Brienna Combs, who happens to be the team's leading scorer.

Combs has been sidelined with a shoulder injury but expects to be back for the district tournament, which starts Feb. 20.

The Sailors will look to put the pieces back together at home Friday when they take on the Glenwood Springs Demons at 7:30 p.m.

They close out the regular season at home Saturday against Delta at 4:30 p.m. The Sailors boys play Delta at 6 p.m. Saturday at home.
