— Jane Harelik and Frank Hogue of Spectrum Jet Center assured the Routt County Commission this week that Yampa Valley Regional Airport near Hayden is recognized as an important link in the nation's air transportation system.

Harelik informed the commissioners that the National Air Transportation Association has listed YVRA among the "100 most needed" airports in the nation. The association is a trade group representing businesses like Harelik's that serve the general aviation industry

Andrew Cebula of the air transportation association said the "most needed" airports in the country aren't to be confused with the most important. Instead, they are selected on the basis of regional significance, insufficient capacity or "hostile political circumstances." He said in a written statement that part of the purpose of the "100 most needed" list is to draw attention to airports his organization feels are deserving of a share of billions of federal dollars available for airport expansion plans.

Other Colorado airports making the list included Aspen-Pitkin County, Boulder Municipal, Centennial, Eagle County Regional, Glenwood Springs Municipal and Gunnison County.

Steamboat Springs Airport did not make the list, but Steamboat Airport Manager Matt Grow said he supports the inclusion of YVRA among the top 100.

Spectrum Jet Center is a private business operating at the airport, serving the needs of locally based and visiting aircraft owners.
