Hayden girls rally for win

— Hayden's Adriana Svoboda made a game-winning shot with about 15 seconds left Tuesday night to lift her team to victory over a visiting team from Craig.

Svoboda's shot from left of the free throw line gave her team a 51-50 victory over Moffat County's junior varsity.

The Tigers trailed 49-50 with 28 second left in the game but forced a turnover to get the ball back. The Tigers got possession of the ball when the Bulldogs were unable to inbound it safely. Hayden's coach Donald Rolando then called upon his sophomore guard to deliver a game-winner.

"We called a play for her," Rolando said of Svoboda, who finished with nine points. "She took it a little differently than we drew it up, but thankfully it went in."

The Tigers started off slow against the younger Bulldogs, who led 15-8 after the first quarter. But Hayden (8-8) was able to take the lead in the third quarter by pressing the team from Craig.

The Bulldogs fought back in the fourth quarter and led 50-49 when sophomore Amanda Tomlinson converted two free throws with a minute left.

Hayden travels Thursday to take on North Park Thursday. The girls will end the regular season at home against archrival Soroco on Friday night.
