WALTER ERIC KOLLENKARK
1925-2001
Walter Eric Kollenkark died Jan. 12, 2001. He was 75.
Walt was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J., and was raised in Baldwinsville, N.Y. He was active in high school athletics and set records in his favorite sport, basketball. He left high school at age 17 to serve his country during World War II on the USS Portsmouth.
Walt married Wanda Davis on Oct. 18, 1946.
His electrical career led him to Colorado in 1956. He was a pioneer in the design of control units for nuclear power plant refueling systems. Walt became an authority in the field and traveled to Japan, Yugoslavia and many sites within the United States. He started his own business in the same field, serving as president, until his retirement in 1994.
Walt and his wife retired in Kayenta, Utah, where he enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle. He enjoyed hiking, golfing and traveling.
Walt was a member of the Baldwinsville Methodist Church, the Garrettsville Masonic Lodge and was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 32. He also was a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, Rick and K.C.; a daughter, Wendy; three grandchildren, Angie, Jenny and Sean; two great-grandchildren, Maya and Tess; and two brothers, Charles and Richard.


LUCY ARCHULETA
1917-2001
Lucy Archuleta of Hayden died Jan. 24, 2001, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. She was 83.
Lucy was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Rodarte, N.M., to Observanti and Fidelia (Medina) Fresquez. She married Jose Olmedo Archuleta on Dec. 5, 1939, in Penasco, N.M. They lived in Rodarte, N.M., until 1943 when they moved to Leadville, where they lived before moving to Hayden in 1955.
Lucy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Craig. She enjoyed her family, embroidering, quilting, making nylon rugs, cooking and going on picnics by the river.
Lucy is survived by her husband; six daughters, Mary Ann Franco, Sally and Lucy Archuleta, Sylvia Johnston and Vickie Archuleta, all of Hayden, and Bernadine Farcy of Grand Junction; six sons, Joe of Craig, Ernest and George of Hayden, Solome of Elko, Nev., and Pat of Fruita; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Leo Medina of Ruidoso, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Robert.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 27 at St. Michael Church. She was buried at Hayden Cemetery.

Harvey Deatherage
1932-2001
Harvey George Deatherage of Hayden died Jan. 18, 2001, at Yampa Valley Medical Center. He was 68.
Harvey was born July 1, 1932, in Blythe, Calif., to Winton and Katherine (Wells) Deatherage. After graduating from high school, he attended Palo Verde Junior College in Blythe, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Harvey married Mary M. McBride in Yuma, Ariz., on April 22, 1954. They lived in various places before moving to Hayden 32 years ago. He worked as an equipment operator for Peabody Coal Co. before retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Connie Haight of Rochelle, Va.; a son, Kevin of Craig; and two grandchildren, Krista and Kalli Deatherage.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held Jan. 24 at Hayden Congregational Church.
Harvey andrew Fay
1931-2001
Harvey Andrew Fay of Cedaredge died Jan. 24, 2001, at his home in Cedaredge. He was 69.
Harvey was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Oriville, Wash., to Harley and Anna (Trowbridge) Fay. He married LaDona Pope July 29, 1954 in Delta.
He served in the U.S. Army from April, 1954 through April 1957, having attained the rank of sergeant. He was employed as a miner for many years and he and his wife owned their own store.
Harvey was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cedaredge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry and remodeling. He also enjoyed tinkering with cars.
Harvey is survived by his wife; a son, Earl of Grand Junction; three daughters, Vickie Kolisch of Creede, Tammy Fay of Great Mill, Md., and Shauna Duran of Steamboat Springs; two brothers, Wesley of Eckert and Harry of Arizona; a sister, Penny Pratte of Delta; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harvey was cremated. Inurnment will be at Delta City Cemetery in Delta. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Visit the online memorial at www.mesaview.net


LENA SPITELLIE WELCH
1915-2001
Lena Spitellie Welch died Jan. 15, 2001. She was 85.
Lena was born June 18, 1915, in Walsenberg to Andrew and Ermina Simon.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet Pluta, Joy Dionese and Judy McLain; two sons, Mack and Michael Spitellie; two brothers, Frank and Pete Simon; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Geno Simon.
