SKI FOR DESO DAY
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS About 100 friends and family members of the late Justin DeSorrento will host the fourth "Ski for DeSo Day" at Mount Werner on Monday. Whether skiers or riders, all are welcome at 11:30 a.m. at the top of the Morningside lift to head out for a memorial run on Chute 1, which will be renamed "DeSo's Descent."
Kip Attaway will perform at The Bear River Bar and Grill at 4:30 p.m. as a special tribute to Justin, his family and friends. Tickets are available at The Bear River Bar and Grill for $10 on a first-come, first-serve basis. "Ski for DeSo Day" buttons also will be available.
PAINTING THE WEST
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS A four-artist oil, pastel, watercolor and bronze showcase will be on display Feb. 9-24 at the Wild Horse Gallery. Artists from Colorado and one from Wyoming will display sunsets over Buffalo Pass, spring willow in Strawberry Park, pastel images of Wyoming, Rabbit Ears Pass and a collection of wildlife images. Such artists include Lee Stroneck, Linda Lillegraven, Joel Johnson and Vince Valdez. An opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 9 at both showrooms in the Sheraton Resort Hotel will give art lovers a chance to meet the artists. For more information, call 879-7660.
CHILDREN'S NEEDS
ROUTT COUNTY First Impressions of Routt County and The Northwest Colorado Association for the Education of Young Children present a workshop focusing on the needs of children, their development and a caretaker's role. The workshop is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 in room 204 of Bristol Hall at CMC. The cost is $5 and lunch is included. CHILD-CARE COURSE
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS First Impressions and the Colorado Department of Education offer a supervisor infant and toddler course to increase the quality of care in a loving and enriching environment. An orientation for the course is from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 in room 204 of Bristol Hall at Colorado Mountain College. The course will last for six Saturdays starting Feb. 10. Registration for the orientation and the course is required by calling 870-4422 or 870-4424. CMC credit also is provided.
FUN WITH FUNGI
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS A Fun with Fungi seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at the community center in Steamboat Springs. The seminar will explore the ecology and diversity of fungi found in a forest system.
A BREAK FOR KIDS
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS A Blues Break program, Kaleidoscope, offers three sessions of water color, acrylics and dance for children. The program is from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 19-23 at the Depot Art Center. The cost is $43.50 for each session, all three days. Call Debbie Young at 871-4766 for information and to register.
