Fund-raiser likely to 'snowball'

— If you're ready to slough off those dirty snow boots and don that new party dress, you have a good reason to do so March 3: the children of Routt County.

Snowball 2001 is one of Steamboat Springs' most prominent "social" events, and this year money raised at the dance will go to First Impressions.

First Impressions is a community board that serves as an umbrella organization for many agencies and groups involved in early childhood education and development.

"We had several children's organizations apply, but we felt First Impressions was a good way to get the funds to everyone and not just one entity," said Heidi Barbee, advertising manager for the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. Ski corp. has been hosting the Snowball for 19 years.

Snowball is expected to raise from $25,000 to $30,000.

"We're extremely excited," said Renee Donahue, First Impressions' coordinator.

"It makes us feel like our cause has been recognized in the community for its importance."
