Gold Cup action gets under way

Steamboat Springs Jumping and Nordic combined action will continue at Howelsen Hill today as the top American skiers hit the hills for the Gold Cup.
The Gold Cup is an opportunity for the national team members and a small group of skiers, who qualified at tryouts last month, to earn a guaranteed spot on the Olympic Team and a check for $10,000.
The events will get under way with the Nordic combined trial round at 9 a.m. The Nordic combined jumping will hold the first of two rounds starting at 9:30 a.m. The 5-kilometer cross-country race will take place at 1 p.m.
There will also be a special jumping competition at 11:15 a.m.
