— A 20-year-old former Steamboat Springs resident died Sunday in a four-car accident in Arvada.

Jennifer Marie Erickson, a 1999 graduate of Steamboat's Christian Heritage School, was driving a Chrysler LeBaron north on Wadsworth Boulevard at 4:15 p.m. Sunday when a Ford truck traveling south struck her head on, according to an Arvada Police Department news release.

Susan Medina, a spokeswoman for the Arvada Police Department, said Erickson was pronounced dead at the scene. It isn't clear if Erickson was wearing a seat belt, Medina said.

Erickson was working in Denver while attending the Colorado Institute of Art.

There was a female passenger riding with Erickson who was injured during the accident. Her name and condition were unavailable.

According to the news release, the male driver of the Ford truck was heading southbound on Wadsworth. He attempted to change lanes and cut off the driver of a Ford Thunderbird, also heading southbound.

The driver of the Thunderbird swerved off the street into a grassy area then swerved back into the southbound lanes of Wadsworth. The car then apparently struck the Ford truck, pushing it into the northbound lanes of Wadsworth and striking Erickson's LeBaron at 72nd and Wadsworth.

A female driver of a Cadillac heading northbound on Wadsworth hit a light pole after attempting to avoid the accident. That driver, the driver of the Thunderbird and the passenger in the LeBaron were taken to St. Anthony's Central and Denver Medical hospitals.

The three males in the Ford truck were not injured. Medina said charges are pending for the driver of the truck.

A memorial service for Erickson will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Steamboat Springs.

Erickson is survived by her parents, Clair and Virginia Erickson of Steamboat Springs; her grandparents, Walter and Ethell Erickson of Cottonwood, Ariz.; two sisters, Christina and Andrea Erickson, both of Steamboat Springs; and a niece, Haley Erickson.

The family plans to establish a memorial scholarship in Jennifer's name at Christian Heritage School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the scholarship fund in care of the law office of Sarah D. Claassen at 879-8405.
