Steamboat Springs Tuesday's weather may have looked a little gloomy, but the day proved to be golden for at least one member of the Steamboat Springs Golf Club.
Steamboat Springs Ruth Golden shot a score of 177 for 36 holes to win the annual women's club championship . She beat out second-place finisher Mary White who finished at 179.
"It was a terrible day," tournament organizer Elaine Gilbertson said of Tuesday's final round. "It rained all day."
Despite the wet conditions, Golden was able to hold off the field in the final 18 holes of the 18-player tournament to become the club's newest women's champion.
Another local golfer Maggie Subr shot a 203 to win the senior division of the annual championships which were held Monday and Tuesday at the Steamboat Golf Club on the west side of town.
Other big winners included Julie Worden in the net division ( gross score minus handicap). Worden recorded a round of 146 to top the field in the regular class. Joan Dalrymple also finished with a 146 and won the senior class in the net division. .
Gilbertson said the annual club championship titles go to the golfer with the lowest gross score.
The local women's day will continue through September, but Gilbertson said the club championship is held early so that more of the members can take part.
"We have a lot of golfers who just live here in the summer," Gilbertson said. "So we start to lose a lot of them this time of year."
In order to allow all the golfers who want to play in the event to have that chance the club holds its championship in mid-August.
