Steamboat Springs Organizers of the Ski Town USA Classic golf tournament said at least 180 golfers will take part in this year's tournament, but they are still holding out hope for a few more before Monday's deadline.
"Our goal was to have 200 golfers this year," organizer Rod Hanna said. "We still have room for a few more."
The two-player, best ball tournament is a benefit for the cancer treatment services of Yampa Valley Medical Center, youth and senior projects at the Steamboat Springs Rotary and the Doak Walker Memorial Fund.
Last year the memorial fund was used for eight local scholarships and to support the Doak Walker youth football league here in Steamboat Springs.
Medical center spokeswoman Bonnie Boylan said 185 golfers took part in the two day tournament last year. Organizers are still hoping for a few late registrations before Monday's 5 p.m. deadline.
Cost to enter the tournament is $450. That includes two days of golf, breakfast and lunch each day and admittance into the evening events.
Boylan said golfers can sign up as a four-person team or as an individual. Individuals will be placed on a team for the tournament.
The tournament will tee off at the Haymaker and Sheraton golf courses Friday. It will continue Saturday. The field will be split in half with one group of golfers playing at the Haymaker one day and the other group playing at the Sheraton. The next day, the two groups will swap courses.
The handicap tournament will be a two-player best ball. The two best scores on each hole will count for the team's total.
The top teams will be recognized at each golf course both days. At the end of the 36-hole tournament, the top team will win the overall title.
Top individuals will also be recognized at the end.
The tournament will also feature an auction with hundreds of items, including a salmon fishing trip to Alaska, a vacation package to the 2002 Super Bowl in New Orleans and a Caribbean cruise on a luxury yacht.
