Steamboat Springs A fund-raiser is being held for a 19-year-old Steamboat Springs man who recently died because of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Mazzola's Italian Restaurant is hosting a pizza and pasta buffet for Patrick "Pato" McLaughlin, who worked at the restaurant.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 14 at Mazzola's Restaurant, 917 Lincoln Ave.
The fund-raiser is being held to help McLaughlin's family with medical bills.
McLaughlin was injured in a July 16 accident near Nashville, Tenn. He had to be rushed to Charlotte, N.C. where he was put on life support.
McLaughlin died July 25.
goes on the lamb
Chef Jacques Wilson of the Sheraton Steamboat Resort won a free trip to the Aspen Food and Wine Festival on the strength of an outstanding recipe for lamb.
Wilson won the Minor's Colorado Lamb Recipe Contest with his preparation of "lamb saltimbocca with sage-garlic jus."
The contest was sponsored by the Colorado Wool and Sheep Authority and the L.J. Minor's division of Nestle Food Services.
The ingredients in Wilson's recipe include fresh green beans, Roma tomatoes, chevre cheese and chianti wine. Per contest rules, Wilson used two different Minor's products.
Ice cream social planned by bank
Well's Fargo Bank's will host its annual ice cream social today with tents and entertainment.
"It's just a way to show the community and our customers appreciation for their business," said Assistant Vice President Marlene Walsh.
This will be Wells Fargo's 13th ice cream social.
The event will feature a Steamboat Springs Fire Department truck and The Mason Barratt Band will provide music, featuring banjo, guitar and fiddle players.
The ice cream social is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today in the Wells Fargo parking lot.
Fearful of federal congressional redistricting that could take away power from Routt County and the Western Slope, Routt County commissioners signed a resolution in support of maintaining the Third Congressional District on the Western Slope.
The commissioners join two powerful political groups Club 20 and the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado in a move to keep Western Slope Communities in one Congressional District.
New census numbers means Colorado will gain a congressional seat.
County Commissioner Dan Ellison said counties in this part of Colorado have many issues in common like public lands, environmental, transportation, natural resources and growth issues.
