Steamboat Springs The death of a 28-year-old Oak Creek woman who was found Tuesday in a field near Steamboat Springs Airport has been ruled a suicide, Routt County Coroner Doug Allen said Thursday.
Stacey J. Stark died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Allen said of autopsy results.
Stark was found Tuesday morning in her Ford sport-utility vehicle, which was parked north of the airport's runway, Routt County Sheriff John Warner said.
Stark was found by a nearby property owner who then notified authorities, he said.
On Monday night, a friend called in reporting Stark was missing, Warner said.
"Deputies were out searching for the woman until about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning," he said.
Sheriff's deputies found the young woman hours after they had stopped searching for her.
Although the death has been ruled a suicide, Warner's office is continuing to investigate the case, which includes determining a motive for the suicide, he said.
Stark's death occurred as officials in Routt County are gearing up for National Suicide Prevention Week, which is scheduled for the first week in May.
