Navy Lt. C.J. Thomas, a 1984 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the destroyer USS Kinkaid, home ported in San Diego.

Thomas is one of more than 10,000 Pacific Fleet Sailors and Marines deploying aboard the ships of the USS Constellation Carrier Battle Group and USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.

The groups are comprised of nine surface combatants, two submarines, nine aircraft squadrons and one Marine expeditionary unit.

During the deployment, Thomas' ship will defend the U.S. policy and support international interests in the Middle East.
