STEAMBOAT SPRINGSThe Steamboat Speech Team sent 10 students to the state tournament, three of which made the elimination rounds.

Senior Kyle Kuvin had a preliminary round record of four wins and no losses in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate and made it to the Octa-final round where he lost a 2-1 decision to the eventual state champion.

In the Humor category, Steamboat had double success when junior Ben MacCarthy and sophomore Jonah Skurky-Thomas made it to the semi-final round of competition.

MacCarthy placed 12th overall while Skurky-Thomas missed the finals, placing seventh.

The Colorado State Speech Tournament featured 92 schools competing in the nine speaking events.

The Rocky Mountain-North NFL District National Qualifying Tournament was held at Greeley Central High School April 6 and 7.

Junior Loren Cogswell placed sixth in Drama while senior Bryn Weaver placed sixth in Original Oratory.

Sophomore Beth Ludwig was the youngest competitor who made it to the final round of Humor where she placed fifth.

In the event of International Extemporaneous Speaking, junior Jenni Stanford and Weaver both made it to the third consecutive final round.

Stanford placed sixth and Weaver placed first in the tournament. Weaver will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla., to compete for the national title.

SSHS has qualified students to the national tournament four years in a row.
