For secretary Ginger Erickson, her day of thanks and appreciation came especially early this year.

But for most others, you'll have to patiently wait until April 25 until you're reminded from your bosses how important you are.

There has to be a day for every person in the world. The calendar marks Mother's Day and Father's Day, Teacher's Day and Boss' Day, among all the other holidays that recognize prominent people or groups in our history.

But one day that may slide by unrecognized is Professional Secretaries Day.

We've asked locals in Steamboat what they could do for their secretaries to honor their hard work, including one who thought April 18 was the big day.

"I thought today was secretaries day," attorney Sally Claassen said on Wednesday.

Whether it was her computer's fault or her own, Claassen said it was ironic that the newspaper was calling on this subject on the day she thought was secretaries day.

"I've done flowers. I've done baskets of goodies. I've done massages," Claassen said. "A client sent her a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and I cannot possibly duplicate that. So I said, 'Take the day off. Here's some mad money."

Evlyn Burge of Special Places of Steamboat Inc. said along with video, movie and lunch gift certificates, the biggest hit so far has been massage certificates.

"It's so popular because it's such a stress reliever," Burge said of the many people out there who haven't ever received the deep relaxation of a massage.

Having lunch delivered to the office has been pretty popular, but she said nothing beats telling her secretaries every day that they are appreciated.

"They are the backbone of the company. The appreciation can't be enough. I can't exist without them," Burge said. "Definitely verbal praise and 'Good jobs' are an absolute."

Once again, it's this Wed., April 25.
