Steamboat Springs If all goes as planned Tuesday, the Steamboat Sailors will lock up the league title with a victory over the Glenwood Demons.
The Sailors, who are 8-0 in the 4A Western Slope League, are scheduled to meet the Demons at 4 p.m. at Dudley Field.
In the case of bad weather, the game might be moved to the high school football field.
Steamboat holds the first-place spot in the league, while Glenwood is a distant second with a 4-2 record.
A win over the Demons Tuesday would seal the deal for the Sailors. All 4A Western Slope teams play 10 league games.
Steamboat's Julie Wernig said the Sailors are expecting a tough scrap from the No. 2 challenger.
"So far, Glenwood has given us the most defensive pressure," Wernig said. "They've had the most shots on us and they had a couple of close calls in the last game. But, we've definitely improved since then."
Though the Demons managed to get off some shot attempts during their previous meeting with the Sailors, they were taken behind the woodshed for a 6-0 beating. The game was played in Glenwood March 27.
The Sailors are on an eight-game winning streak that can be credited to their strong bench play, coach Jim Dudley said.
"We just go real deep and I think it wears other people out," Dudley said.
