— Despite a week filled with cold and snowy weather, the Steamboat Golf Club has been open since April 6.

"It wasn't very nice, but we had about seven golfers out there (the first day)," said golf pro Dennis Johnson. "We've had a lot of people that have just been anxious to play golf."

The Steamboat Golf Club is the first course to open in town.

It is located off west U.S. 40, about a half-mile past the Steamboat II subdivision on the opposite side.

Johnson, who is in his 14th year as the head pro, said he anticipates another successful season.

About 17,000 rounds of golf were played at the Steamboat Golf Club last year.

Spring rates are $19 for nine holes and $29 for 18 holes.

Summer rates will be $25 for nine holes and $37 for 18 holes.

There also are punch cards and season passes available.

A 20-punch card for nine holes is $315.

For 20 18-hole rounds, it is $499.

An individual season pass is $549 and a family pass is $739.
