— The Steamboat Sailors return to Gardner Field today to face the Palisade Bulldogs in a No. 1 versus No. 5 league matchup.

The Sailors, who are 7-0 in the 4A Western Slope League, will meet the 'Dogs at 2 p.m. at home on the high school football field.

The 'Dogs lost their last four games, including a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Glenwood Springs Demons.

Steamboat's game against Palisade will be a rematch from last Saturday, when the teams met at the Peach Bowl in Palisade.

Steamboat won that game, 7-0.

The Sailors, who are 9-1-1 overall, have outscored their last seven opponents by a combined margin of 38-1.

The lone goal scored against them came during a 5-1 victory over Battle Mountain Thursday.

Cassidy Kurtz, one of the Sailors' starting defenders, said the team now seeks to start a new shut-out streak.

The Sailors certainly appear to have an opportunity to hold the 'Dogs scoreless.

Palisade has not scored in its past three games.

The 'Dogs have been outscored 22-8 this season.

"We'll take every game as we go," said the Sailors' Anya Allen. "We'll go into it with an open mind that we're just going to play our best."
