County to hire dispatch chief

— If all goes as planned, the Routt County commissioners will pass a motion on Monday to hire Janice Joan Ling as the new communications director.

"I'm totally happy and thrilled," County Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak said of potentially filling a vacancy that has been open since September.

Ling will be hired at two steps above the entry-level salary, just more than $50,000 a year, because of her good experience, Stahoviak said.

Ling is from Lake Helen, Fla. Her last job was the public safety communication supervisor in Deland, Fla.

She held that position for the last 11 years.

Ling also has 17 years experience as a police officer in Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Longwood, Fla.

County Commissioner Doug Monger said her experience in dispatch and in the field made her a top candidate for the job.

The Routt County communications center has had a revolving door of sorts when it comes to directors. In the last five years, four people have held the position.

The last director, Ray Deichsel, had been on the job for about 10 months when he resigned Sep. 5 because of personal reasons. His predecessor, Dale Kuhn, also worked less than a year.

The communications director oversees the emergency dispatch center that serves law enforcement, ambulance and fire services in Routt County.
