Maletta E. Bailey 1911-2000

Maletta E. Bailey died Aug. 30, 2000, at the Extended Care Center in Steamboat Springs. She was 88.

Maletta was born Sept. 22, 1911, in Dunn Center, N.D., to John and Stena (Hansen) Larsen. She married James Wilbur Bailey in 1926. Together they owned and operated a ranch in North Dakota.

She was a former member of the First Congregational Church Auxiliary in Dickinson, N.D., and the Eastern Star. She loved to sing and was a fabulous cook.

Maletta is survived by a sister, Gladys Bailey of Redwood Falls, Minn.; four daughters, Kathy Martinez of Steamboat Springs, Patricia Dorner of Evanston, Wyo., Betty Bailey of Pitkin and Lois Nelsen of St. Paul, Minn.; a son, Ronald of Longview, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Maynard, Harry, Arnold and Clair; and a sister, Marie.

Memorial services were held at Sept. 15 at the First Congregational Church in Dickinson, N.D. with the Rev. Peggy Harris officiating. She was cremated. Peterson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
