Steamboat's J.V. soccer shuts out Rifle Bears

— The Steamboat Sailors junior varsity soccer team pitched a shutout at home on Tuesday, defeating the Rifle High School Bears 4-0 at Dudley Field.
Todd Bell had a second-half goal and a first-half assist to help lead the Sailors, who are now 2-1. Bell converted on a penalty kick to make the score 3-0, and made an assist to teammate Justin John who had two scores.
Daniel Barney made a goal on an assist from Kelly Carlson, and Zach Klohr had the team's final assist to John.
Steamboat travels to Glenwood High School on Friday, before visiting Aspen High School on Saturday. The Sailors only loss came to Palisade High School on Sept. 16.
Chris Gibson was the man behind the shutout for the Sailors, coming up big with five saves.
Chris Kerlin, head coach, was optimistic after the match.
"I'm very happy with the possession that we were able to establish," Kerlin said. "We created a lot of good scoring opportunities, but we still need to work on our defensive organization on the counter attack
