Jones, Schnitzler win titles

Steamboat Springs ski jumper Clint Jones is the new Summer National Ski Jumping champion.
Jones scored 245.6 points on jumps of 72 and 73.5 meters to win the title. Park City's Trey Oxford came in second with 217.4 and Duluth's Jim Denny was third with 214.3 points.
The National Championships were held Sept. 3 on the plastic surface of the Itasca Ski & Outing Club in Coleraine, Minn. The temperature at the time of the competition was 65 degrees and there were 34 men and four women entered in the event.
Other top local finishers included Alex Glueck, who was fourth; Logan Gerber, who was fifth; and Nathan Gerhart, who finished 12th in the event.
Nupie Schnitzler, who trained in Steamboat Springs last winter, won the women's event with a score of 141.5.
Blair Tomten was second and Veronica Myhra was third.
