Rams start season hot

Oak Creek Katharine Ford was unstoppable for Soroco High School Thursday, racking up 17 kills for the Rams, as the girls volleyball team came from behind to defeat the Meeker High School Cowboys in three games.
Soroco, which plays in the 2A league, beat 3A Meeker 12-15, 17-15 and 15-12. Sara Jo Linden added 12 kills for the Rams and seven blocks, and Sarah Broadbent had 43 assists as the team's setter.
The Rams also won first place at a Labor Day tournament in De Beque on Saturday, including wins over Norwood High School and De Beque High School. Soroco came from behind to defeat De Beque and won all three of their matches in the tournament. After trailing 13-4 in the first game against De Beque, Soroco battled back to defeat the Dragons 15-13. The Rams followed with a 15-3 win in the second game.
"The team really does have a lot of determination and intensity," coach Betsy Photos said. "They never let up, and they definitely have the desire to win."
Danielle Ferrick was a force for the Rams against Meeker. Ferrick concluded Thursday's game with a 96 percent serving average.
Soroco High School plays at North Park High School in Walden on Friday, before traveling to Plateau Valley High School on Saturday for their first league game.
