— The Yampa Valley Regional Airport netted a $111,000 grant from the Colorado Aeronautics Board.
The state grant will help the Hayden airport get additional federal and county funds totalling $2 million.
Airport Director Jim Parker said the money will go toward reconstruction of taxiways, lighting upgrades and new hangars east of the terminal.
"I went down with a need and identified it," Parker said.
"These were projects that were necessary for the economic viability of this airport.
"There's been requests for space out here to build hangars."
After developing the infrastructure for a new aviation area, the county would lease the land to those wanting to build hangars.
"It could be corporate or individual hangars for plane owners," Parker said.
The county would make money off the land lease, but the hangars too, would eventually be handed over to the county.
The $111,000 state grant was funded by aviation taxes and aviation fuel taxes.
