John W. Cary of Richland, Wash., died Oct. 17, 2000, at Yampa Valley Medical Center. He was 69.
John was born June 20, 1931, in Hayden to Wilson and Edwena (Wilkins) Cary.
He married Mary J. Jefferson. Prior to his retirement, he was a soil physicist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and for Battelle, a national science laboratory in Richland, Wash. John was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army in Japan during the early 1950s.
He was originally a Routt County resident, growing up on the Cary ranch west of Hayden and he had a summer home on Williams Fork, south of Hayden.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his mother, Edwena; a son, Russell J. Cary of Oakhurst, Calif.; three daughters, Cheryl O'Brien of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Annette Cary of Richland, Wash., and Lisa Dally of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren, Laura, John, Paul, Matthew, Henry and Molly; and a brother, Earle E. Cary of New York.
John was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
